GO GREENS!

Every March, we look forward to seeing the first spring green in the landscape as it starts to warm up.  Why wait when you can enjoy some greens right now!  Green Healing Wheatgrass is now available in half-pound packages for just $9.99.  Juicing wheatgrass captures that freshness and provides more vitamins than your average multi, with the added benefits of chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll is the lifeblood of green plants. In fact, it's molecule is nearly identical to hemoglobin in humans, except with a magnesium atom at the center rather than iron. So chlorophyll promotes natural blood-cleansing and circulatory functions. It encourages balanced pH levels, and it helps neutralize body odors, acting like an "internal deoderant".

This St. Patrick's Day, skip the artificially colored green beer and artificially-flavored gum-based beverages for a more healthful option.  Find a recipe for a better for you Minty Sham-rockin Shake on our Pinterest page that uses Nature's Sunshine Liquid Chlorophyll to provide the green color and a spearmint flavor.

BEYOND PURIFIED WATER

The Flint water debacle underscores how fundamental water is to us,  so why not get best drinking water available?  Take a look at our new multi-step filtration and alkalizing water system on your next visit. You can see all the equipment needed to take chlorinated, fluoridated city water and turn it into pure water, free from harmful chemicals while retaining trace minerals and a superior taste.

The sets of filters virtually eliminates (99.99%) contaminants including arsenic, chlorine, fluoride, lead, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pesticide and herbicide residues, and more.

Water then moves through two chambers where UV light kills off bacteria and viruses.  At this point, you can either fill this ultra-clean water from the tap, or wait for another set of cartridges to alkalize and add the good trace minerals back into the water.  The result is a water that is more "hydrating" as the negatively charged ions are able to get into cells more easily, attracts free radicals for an antioxidant effect (high negative Oxidation-Reduction Potential or ORP value), and provides essential minerals.

Faster Fill Ups.  No Waste Water.  Traditionally, you had to choose between better filtration or faster fill up time, so it could take a minute or two to fill a gallon, and there was significant acid water waste.  Now, because we have 2 filling stations, each filling up to 4 times faster than before, with no waste water.  With just the turn of a faucet, customers may fill their own bottles, after checking in at the register.

Even with the improved water features, we are keeping the price of refills the same low price of $2 per gallon. However, the price of new glass gallon jars is now raised to $6.99.

Our machine was custom-built for our space, but you can have your own scaled-down system installed under your sink.  If you provide a name and phone number, we will have a GreenTech Consultant reach out to you to provide a custom quote.

HELLO DANDELION!

Since March is National Kidney Month, we are highlighting this potassium-rich, fairly notorious plant.  Yes, we are talking about that weed that grows in your yard.  Before you are tempted to wipe them out, consider that dandelion leaves, flowers, and roots are all edible and were brought to the Americas by early colonial setters for food and medical purposes.  Here are three good reasons to add dandelion to your diet.

1.  More Nutritious than some Vegetables
They have more vitamin A than spinach, more vitamin C than tomatoes and are a treasure trove of vitamin K (bone strengthening), B6, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, magnesium, iron, calcium and potassium.   Read more about their nutritional benefits here and here.

2.  Detoxifies the Body
Dandelions helps the liver flush the body of toxins. Many people believe that you can drink dandelion root tea to relieve constipation, soothe an upset stomach and shed water weight. It’s delightful to see that even Dr. Oz is talking about dandelion tea as part of his 48 hour cleanse to help cleanse the Liver, the Colon and the Kidneys.

Let's take a closer look at what these organs do.

Liver: your first line of defense against toxins building up in the body. Your liver acts like a filter preventing toxins from passing into your blood stream.

Colon: when seeded with the healthy probiotic bacteria, this organ works to flush out chemicals before they can harm the body.

Kidneys: your body’s filter to keep your blood clean and sends toxins out of the body with urine.  90% of all our daily detox we flush down the toilet.

3.  Aids Immune System
In double blind studies, researcher have tested the protective effect of dandelion extract with hepatic and gallbladder disorders. They also report that dandelion extracts and essential oils assists the immune system to fight off microbes (staphylococci) and fungi.

Although slightly bitter, harvesting the young tender leaves will be a less bitter addition to your salads. Cooking them reduces the bitterness too.  Dandelion is considered safe in food, teas and as a medicinal herb. Avoid dandelion if you have an allergy to ragweed, chrysanthemum, marigold, chamomile, yarrow, or daisy. Anyone pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription drugs should talk to a health care professional before adding something new to their diet.
